As part of the legacy of this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Scottish Government are launching the ‘Fit for 14’ campaign which looks to getting the populous more active, especially in the workplace, by making physical activity a part of everyday life, so a great chance to wear your favorite outdoor clothes brands. This forms part of a national Physical Activity Implementation Plan which looks to improve the overall health of the Scottish nation.

The overall plan has been developed in conjunction with various agencies to combat physical inactivity. This inactivity, surveys have shown, results in 2,500 premature deaths in Scotland each day, and costs the NHS around 91 million pounds a year. Being more active can assist in preventing over twenty chronic diseases. The latest estimates show that if Scotland became more physically active it would increase life expectancy by over a year.

It is focusing around five core areas: Environment, Workplace Settings, NHS & Social Care, Education Settings and Sport & Active Recreation, and putting key milestones into place for a ten year period after the Games have finished. The aim is to involve organizations of all sizes to include small and simple ways of improving the health and well being of employees, to help them improve their personal fitness.

One of the first organizations to sign up to the campaign is Asda, which with over 20,000 workers across Scotland, is a great asset to getting Scotland that little bit fitter. Lets hope it helps get people more active, and what better way than enjoying the great outdoors by walking a little bit more, so if you need some outdoor clothes brands then why not check out what our latest additions are and get ahead of the game, after all we can all use a little more exercise.
