New Brand: Hunter!
The latest brand to be added into our range is Hunter, a brand which provides many top quality wellington boots.
Founded in Scotland during the mid-19th century by American Henry Lee Norris, Hunter was born. Originally known as the ‘North British Rubber Company’, the company created a number of industrial items as well as durable rubber boots.
As you’d expect, the company did not have many staff to begin with, but fast-forward twenty years and the amount of staff had increased exponentially – from four to more than six hundred!
The business continued to grow and progress, but the workload increased dramatically at the beginning of the 20th century as the War Office demanded that the British soldiers fighting in the trenches across Europe be provided with durable rubber boots.
The demand outstripped the capability of a standard working day, so the mill had to be operational for twenty-four hours a day to try and match the supply needed. Over one million pairs of boots were manufactured over the four-year duration of the First World War. The company was also called upon twenty years later when the Second World War was declared.
Eleven years after the war, Hunter’s ‘Original boot’ was created – the green wellington. Often seen as Hunter’s signature design, this boot is still created in the same way from the same parts today.
Hunter’s popularity and influence has grown year after year, with the brand now being decorated as well as recognisable. After being awarded with a Royal Warrant by Appointment in 1977 from HRH Duke of Edinburgh, the brand was also awarded one by HM The Queen nine years later. Lady Diana Spencer also wore Hunter boots in her engagement photos in 1981.
Our new range is designed for both men and women, with ten out of the eleven items currently available being designed for both sexes. With three different colours to choose from – black, green and navy – there will be something for everyone.
One of the current best-sellers is the Hunter Balmoral Classic Wellington Boots in dark olive, with sizes currently available between four and thirteen.
These robust boots are handmade from heavy duty rubber and possess both an adjustable gusset and heel kick spur – which are key in allowing you to get your foot in and out of them easily. They’re also lined with quick drying nylon, so you won’t need to worry about damp wellies! Last but not least, the front of the boot uses reinforced panels to provide extra protection.
